Epson Workforce 610 Wireless Color Inkjet All-in-One Printer (C11CA50201)

The Workforce 610 is fantastic but a little slower than 600. May be more eco-friendly.4

This is a great printer. It's easy to set up and easy to use. I have the previous model the Workforce 600 and I thought this would be a better version. However it is not better. In fact it is slower than the previous version for laser quality prints. For draft quality it still does 38 ppm but for laser quality it does 15 vs. 27 ppm of the 600 model. And for color it does only 9.3 vs 15! Although I don't need the speed at home I can't imagine why Epson would slow it down. The printing quality seems just the same. I went over spec sheets of 600 and 610 with a tooth comb and the only difference I found was the slower speed and the fact that 610 can be recycled and uses slightly less power on standby mode (2.9 W on 610 vs. 5.5 W on 600). Since Energy Star specs change from year to year this update could have been just to conform to those specs.

The set up of this printer is very easy. You can do it through your computer or directly from the printer LCD screen by typing in your router password. I tried both ways and it worked. It prints from my Windows 7 and XP laptops and Mac desktop in different parts of the house. It took about 30 minutes in all from opening the package to printing out the test sheet over wireless mostly because the packaging tape took some time to get through. The convenience of being able to print or fax remotely from anywhere in my house is a big asset and the prints look great - both normal paper printing and photos.

The advantages of this printer:

++ Wireless printing. What a joy. It's the best thing ever. No more running to the printer with a laptop or buying a separate printer for the desktop. The whole family can use just one. It saves me so much time and it's so convenient as you can print (or fax from PC) from anywhere in the house - upstairs or from downstairs.

++ The top auto document feeder makes it really easy to photocopy or scan your standard sized documents. I can just start and walk away. It can hold 30 sheets at a time.

++ The feature I love is that you can scan all your important papers to PDF or JPG files on a memory card inserted into the printer card-slot. It takes pretty much any card from CF to SDHC etc. The card shows up as a drive (X or Y or whatever you designate) in your Windows explorer. I open my mail drop my bills in the auto feeder and select scan to memory card (choosing PDF option) and walk away. The printer does the rest. Later I access the card from my laptop wirelessly and copy over the docs to my hard drive folders. This is really great as all my filing is now paperless and I can save all important documents in PDF from school schedules to tax documents.

++ The color LCD screen on the front panel with the buttons on the side makes it easy to change settings or scan/copy/print photos etc right from the printer. To print photos you can print wirelessly from PC or attach your camera with USB or insert the memory card into the printer.

++ It comes with 4 full sized ink tanks - 3 high capacity primary colors and one extra high capacity (#97) black ink tank. The ink levels show up on your computer each time you print and indicate when you need to change the tank. They can be changed individually so you can replace them as needed which saves ink.

++ The ink dries very quickly and the prints are smudge free. This printer also printed really good photos using premium glossy paper.

++ You can hardwire this printer through ethernet or connect your laptop with USB cable if you don't want to use the WiFi option.

What could have been better:

-- Why oh why did Epson slow down the speed of this printer? The prints are great but it's a mystery why they chose to go slower than the previous version. If you don't print too much this may be not a problem for you. It's still faster than several other printers.

--It does not have real duplex printing you have to do it manually by printing one side and then turning over the stack of paper. And even this option is not available through Mac.

--Inks are expensive and there is a chip on each cartridge ensuring they cannot be refilled. For 600 the printer stopped if one ran out of any one color as the printer is set up to use all colors even in grayscale. There may be a way to bypass this but I haven't discovered it. Cheaper gray market ink cartridges are available on some sites but from what I read so far people have had mixed results and in worst cases got clogged print heads.

This printer is a workhorse and a solid performer although a little slower than the earlier Workforce 600. You can't go wrong with this printer for home or small office use. For the price it's the best all-in-ones available. And if you can find the Workforce 600 cheaper go for it.More detail ...

Epson Stylus C88+ Ink Jet Printer (C11C617121)

Very disappointing1

I have always been a big Epson fan. However I have been extremely disappointed with this printer. First of all it burns through ink cartridges which gets expensive. Secondly I am constantly having to clean the nozzle heads to prevent gaps (which uses even more ink) so that the text on my documents is legible. It's so bad I have to clean them before almost every print job and even then I rarely get a page to print out cleanly. Also the printer has major problems with the paper feed - mostly when trying to print double-sided. After *every* page I have to push the paper feed button. Very annoying for large documents. Finally when printing photos or anything that has a lot of ink coverage the colors are terrible. It's been so frustrating I am thinking of forking over for a laser printer. Avoid buying this printer!More detail ...

Epson WorkForce 30 Color Printer (Black) (C11CA19201)

Epson WorkForce 30 Color Printer C11CA192015

This order was received on time and intact. After installing the software and printing a "test page" we selected a digital picture of multi-colored reef on the ocean floor and printed on hi-glossy photo paper. The printed image looked as if we had the picture developed from a professional photo print shop.

The only issue has been in finding replacement printer cartridges from internet supply shops at discount prices. If we have to buy these cartridges (2 black one magenta one yellow and one blue) from Epson that could be the downside to the selection of this particular printer.More detail ...

Epson Stylus NX515 WiFi Color Inkjet All-in-One Printer (C11CA48231)

Fast excellent output easy setup5

I bought this all-in-one because my other printer is not a copy-capable printer and we need that capability. I did some research and finally decided on the Epson NX515 after reading several reviews. So far I have been very pleased with it. I have a couple of small gripes but nothing that cannot be overlooked.

The NX515 is actually a relatively small printer taking up a little less space than any of my previous printers. It is also lightweight and easy to move should there be a need.

Setting up the NX515 is simple. There is a quick-start guide that explains the process of configuration and it makes the set-up almost foolproof. From the time I opened the box to the time I had a working printer that was producing output was less than 15 minutes and there were no confusing or difficult steps in the process.

The only negative about the setup is that Epson like almost every other printer vendor does NOT include a USB cable in the box. The cost of a USB cable is actually only a couple of dollars (they're a high-profit item) so including one would not break the bank. If you do no have a spare USB cable available and you wish to direct-connect this printer be sure to pick one up before trying to set up.

Once configured the NX515 is a very capable printer. It has the fastest print speeds I have ever seen in an inkjet printing faster in standard mode than I have seen most printers print in draft mode (for standard text - does not apply to photo printing). The quality does not suffer either and is excellent. I was pleased to see than this printer does not produce the banding I have seen in Epson printers' output in the past.

The control panel for setting up copying is very easy to read and very easy to navigate. It is very simple to change copy parameters and the instructions in the panel are straightforward.

I have not used the scanning capabilities of the NX515.

One feature I wish was available even if it required buying an attachment is automatic duplex printing. My other printer handles duplex printing with ease and requires no intervention at all. The NX515 does duplex printing but it requires manual intervention. This is a minor inconvenience not a deal-breaker.

Epson has produced a very nice all-in-one in the NX515. The setup is simple and the print speeds are absolutely stunning. It is by no means a perfect device but it is an excellent product at an excellent price (approximately $110 at the moment). If you need a printer that can handle scanning and copying while producing beautiful prints give this printer a close look.

Greatest little printer I have ever used!5

I just received my printer yesterday afternoon from Amazon and in about 20 minutes I was printing some of the greatest 4x6 pictures that I have ever printed!! I have always been an HP printer person - but just got tired of always having to buy more ink cartridges - and they are not cheap! So I figured up the cost of a print on glossy paper with this printer and looks like it will be about 27 cents per picture - that is about as cheap as I can take a disk to WalMart or Sam's and get them done - and the picture quality is just as good - maybe better. I still have my HP printer for those "bigger" prints that I need - but in my opinion you just can't beat this little printer for 4x6 and smaller prints and it is so cute! I might have to get the rechargeable battery so I can take it to parties and things to give prints away - at that price it is totally doable.

Epson Artisan 710 Wireless Color Inkjet All-In-One Printer (C11CA53201)

Side by side with Canon5

I read review after review debating which printer I should buy for mostly photo reproduction. While not wanting to go to the large size photo dedicated pro version....I wanted to stay under $200. It came down to the Canon Mp640 and the Epson Artisan 710. Reviewers were pretty much split between the two as positive and negative...What to do? Both have very similar features...wirless scan etc..neither of which had much to do with my decision. I finally just decided to take my SD card and have each printer print two or three of the same pic. I started with the Canon and the print menu was easy and the print speed was great. The pics were very good but at side angle had a bit of a hazy quality. Uploaded the same images to the Epson....there was no comparison photo lab quality through and through. There were areas of one image that were dark and undifined in the Canon print but were detailed and exposed well in the Epson.

When you also look at Epson having a 2 year warranty vs. 1 for Canon it says something. The real kicker is from my research I had every intention of buying the Canon....but the proof was in the photos.More detail ...

Epson Stylus Photo 1400 Large Format Photo Printer (C11C655001)

Big win!5

I've had this printer for just a week and I'm amazed at the results. It was easy to set up and is easy to use. I took a look at "Real World Color Management" by Fraser Murphy and Bunting before I started using the printer. It's a helpful book even if you just skim a few of the early chapters. It helped me to understand the printer's advanced options and to get the results I wanted. You could just use the printer with the out of the box settings and I suppose it would produce really nice results. I'm an artist though and I want to be in control. That's why I bought this printer I was frustrated with unpredictable results from labs.

A note on ink:

I have been printing on glossy paper. At $18.99 per cartridge for ink (Epson website price with free overnight shipping if you order at least three cartridges at a time) so far

- my 8.5" x 11" prints are roughly $1.20 - $1.80 for ink

- my 13" x 19" are about $3.50 - $5.50 for ink

(Printing in "Photo" mode puts your costs at the low end of the ranges. Printing in "Photo RPM" mode costs about 40% - 50% more and puts you at the high end of the price ranges. I usually cannot distinguish between "Photo" and "Photo RPM" modes so I almost always print in "Photo" mode. Occasionally I notice banding or tones which do not appear smooth on very close inspection then I switch to "Photo RPM.")

Warning: I believe ink use varies considerably with paper type. less ink for glossy more ink for semi-gloss and still more ink for matte and art paper. I'm not sure though.

I am printing on Inkpress Glossy paper (equivalent in weight sheen and brightness to Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper) which I ordered from B&H Photo. It's less expensive than Epson paper and looks spectacular.

In fact I recently gave two 8x10's to a friend as a gift. She thought they looked wonderful and was astonished to learn that they were inkjet prints. She thought they must have been "professionally" printed at a lab. I was pretty flattered (credit to the printer too of course...) She also happens to be an artist and professional web designer so she's got a fine eye.

---------------

Update:

I've used the printer some more. I'm still very pleased. However I've looked closer at the Inkpress paper I mentioned above. From a distance it looks great but closer up it has many problems. Almost every sheet is covered with fine scratches and about half the sheets have at least one major defect (some as large as 1/8" in diameter) where the gloss coating did not cover the paper. The defects are like little potholes on the surface. At first I thought I had caused these problems through poor handling. Epson Premium Photo Paper Glossy has an absolutely flawless surface though and I have handled the prints the same way. I don't recommend the Inkpress paper.More detail ...

Epson Artisan 50 Color Inkjet Printer (C11CA45201)

Epson Artisan 505

This is my first Epson printer. I've always owned HP but I was particularly interested in being able to print CD/DVD labels. I've owned this printer now for a couple of days and am totally pleased. The directions for getting started were easy and I was able to begin use immediately. The quality of the labels are excellent good color looks professional and it prints quickly. I am not one to usually review products but this one I found well worth the money value and am happy that I made the purchase. The only thing I'd change would be for the software that comes with the CD/DVD printer format I wish it did more but I find it sufficient. I'd definitely recommend. Does well with documents as well.\

Epson Artisan 810 Wireless Touchscreen Color Inkjet All-in-One Printer (C11CA52201)

Almost Perfect!4

When I saw the opportunity to review this Epson 810 All-in-One through the Amazon Vine program I jumped at it. I've used All-in-ones for almost ten years sampling a variety of printers from HP Canon Brother etc. I find this printer excels in a number of areas and fails in only one.

Here's my take on it:

PROS:

1. Print quality is as good as Epson claims. Whether these prints will actually last four times longer than drugstore prints is still up for grabs -- who has years to check out this claim? Nevertheless the text and photos are very nice indeed.

2. Although I may never use it again the coloring book feature is fun. For families with small children I'm sure this feature will be appreciated.

3. Being able to charge up my mp3 player from the port on the front of the printer is a nice little extra. Anytime I can avoid powering up the computer for such a small task I'm happy. And now I have a quick way to do that.

4. I love the bright easy to read control panel. The menu will easily take you where you need to go such as a quick check of ink levels (again without powering up the computer).

5. Ink usage appears to be very conservative. I've gone through a ream of paper without exhausting the standard (not high capacity) black cartridge.

6. This printer actually can use recycled paper. Over the years I've been limited in my paper to 24 lb paper as 20 recycled paper caused repeated jams with my other printers. This feature alone will mean a reduction in my paper bills.

7. The printer includes an automatic duplexer. You do have to setup this function on printer preferences but I enjoy using fewer sheets.

8. Included in the box was a single printable dvd. I tried making a color label and it looks great. I'll be buying printable CDs and DVDs just for the pleasure of having nice looking disks.

9. The printer itself is good-looking and fits in well with the other equipment on my desk. No reason a printer should be ugly is there?

CONS:

The scanner works only through a USB connection to my computer although you can save a scan to a memory card. Why is that? Is there something special about wireless that prevents sending a scan to a computer?

UNKNOWN:

I have not used the fax because my VOIP phone service does not currently support faxing.

Overall I'm a delighted user. This is a good printer for a family network.

Four stars!

UPDATE: November 25 2009

I reinstalled the software using the software downloaded from Epson. Voila! Epson Scan now appears on my desktop and my problem is solved. If it were possible to change the number of stars I would now award this printer five stars!

UPDATE: December 1 2009

Here's the trick. You must start the Epson Scan from your computer rather than from the printer (where you'll be standing when you put the photo on the scanner). Then you'll be able to receive the scan on your computer and without hitching it up to the printer directly.More detail ...
